The speculation has arisen because he had taken voluntary retirement once earlier in 2009 as well to contest Lok Sabha elections, but did not manage to get a ticket. Gupteshwar Pandey recently came in news because of his role in the investigation of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Suhant’s fans feel that Pandey was responsible for handing over the case to CBI ensuring fair investigation. His prompt action in the case was lauded by the actor’s fans.

Gupteshwar Pandey is one of the accused in an abduction case of a 12 year old girl from Muzaffarpur which is currently being investigated by the CBI and monitored by the Supreme Court of India. The girl’s father had alleged that the abduction was part of a land mafia ploy to grab his land in Muzaffarpur.

The DGP had hit headlines after he made a comment on Rhea Chakraborty. He had said, “Rhea does not have the aukaat (stature) to say anything about Bihar’s Chief Minister.” He had made this comment after Rhea had claimed that Sushant’s death case in Bihar was politically motivated due to the upcoming assembly elections.

Today, a music video titled Bihar ke Robin Hood featuring Gupteshwar Pandey was released. The music video glorifies the officer as someone who advocated for justice for late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The song has been sung by Deepak Thakur, an ex-contestant of Bigg Boss. It is being said that Pandey has exploited the death of a young actor in order to fulfill his political aspirations. #JusticeForSSR is one the issues on which NDA will be fighting the assembly elections in Bihar.

The additional charge of State DGP has been given to Mr S K Singhal.
